Choose dimensions, framing, and a file format

A smaller file and a smaller image are related but different. Dimensions describe the pixel grid; file size describes the bytes needed to store it. Reducing a 4,000-pixel photo to 1,200 pixels often reduces the file size, while changing format or quality can change the size without changing dimensions.

Fit, crop, or pad?

  • Fit inside preserves the whole image and its proportions. A 1,600 × 900 image fitted inside 1,200 × 1,200 becomes 1,200 × 675.
  • Center crop fills the exact frame and removes edges. The same landscape image cropped to a square loses content on the left and right. Check that faces or product details remain visible.
  • Pad preserves the whole image and adds space around it to reach the exact frame. Choose a background color, or transparent padding with PNG or WebP.

Choose the output format

JPG is useful for photographs and cannot keep transparency. Transparent areas use the selected background color. PNG can preserve sharp text and transparency, but may be larger for photos. WebP supports transparency and adjustable compression; confirm that the destination accepts it.

The quality setting applies to JPG and WebP. It does not reduce PNG quality. A lower value usually creates a smaller file with more visible loss, but neither a smaller file nor an exact kilobyte target is guaranteed. The result shows actual dimensions, file size, and the difference from the original.

Example: consistent product photos

Select several product photos, choose a 1,200 × 1,200 frame, Pad, white background, and JPG. Process the batch, then inspect each original and result. The padding makes the frames consistent without cutting off the product. Download individual files or a ZIP containing all successful results.

What to check before downloading

Look for small text becoming blurry, edges being cut off, unexpected backgrounds, and files that grew larger. Reduce dimensions or JPG/WebP quality and process again if needed. Enlargement cannot restore missing detail. For worksheets, judge legibility at the size the image will appear on paper.

Limits and privacy

JPG, PNG, and WebP inputs are supported. Animated images produce a still image rather than preserving animation. Output is intended for ordinary screen use; it does not preserve original metadata, print DPI tags, or archival color information. Limits help keep memory use manageable, but older phones may still need smaller batches.

Files are read and processed by your browser, not uploaded to our server. Reloading clears them. This tool does not remove backgrounds automatically or use AI upscaling. For text and classroom activities, explore text tools and the worksheet maker.
